Upcoming Vacancy on the BOE

At the regular October meeting of the Board of Education, Board President Scott Carpenter reported that he has accepted a position in Abilene, Texas.  He will be vacating his seat after the December board meeting.

The Board of Education must fill the vacancy by appointment. This appointment to Office #2 will be occurring after the first half of the term of office, so the appointee shall serve for the balance of the unexpired term (until February 2017).

Qualifications to serve as a member of the Board of Education are as follows:

  • Must have been a resident of, and a registered voter of, the school district and the election district (office) for at least six months immediately preceding the filing period.
  • Must have been awarded a high school diploma or a certificate of high school equivalency.
  • A person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor involving embezzlement or of a felony or who has entered a plea of guilty or nolo contendere to such crime shall not be eligible to be a candidate for or to be elected to a school board position for a period of 15 years following completion of the sentence or during the pendency of an appeal.
  • No person can be a candidate for or serve as a board member if a person is currently employed by this school district or is related within the second degree by affinity or consanguinity to any other member of the board or to an employee of this school district.

Once the Board has accepted the official letter of resignation and has declared the seat vacant, then the appointment process can move forward. Anyone interested who fulfills the qualifications as stated above, can apply for the vacant board position. That process begins by the applicant completing the Application for Vacant Board Position form and providing a letter of interest stating why they want to serve on the Ardmore Board of Education. They may also include any other information they feel is appropriate. Submit the application to the Board Minutes Clerk. The Board will review applications and hopes to have the position filled by the February 2016 regular meeting.

A complete application for vacancy will be posted on our website once the board approves the vacancy. You can also receive a packet via email or regular mail by contacting the Board Minutes Clerk, Marcy King at or by calling her at 223-2483.
