Kim Holland Named Superintendent

At the August 23rd special meeting of the Ardmore Board of Education, the Board approved a mutual separation agreement with Superintendent Sonny Bates effective August 31, 2016. The Board would like to thank Mr. Bates for his 5 years with the district. During his tenure at Ardmore, Mr. Bates led a diverse group of community members, staff and parents through strategic planning which resulted in the success of passing a $31 million bond for improvements across the district. Those improvements included a new roof at the middle school, a classroom addition and renovation project at Jefferson Elementary, a classroom addition and renovation project at Will Rogers Elementary, a brand new Lincoln Elementary and improvements to the field house, Noble Stadium and the track. We wish Mr. Bates well in all his future endeavors.

The Board also named a new superintendent, Mr. Kim Holland. Mr. Holland returns to Ardmore City Schools to take the top job with more than 35 years of experience in the field of education. During his career, he has served as a principal, a superintendent and as an executive director in his home state of Texas. He received recognition from the State of Texas at three different schools for his schools’ high student achievement. During his time in Texas, he worked to improve Advanced Placement programs for all students increasing minority student participation. He also worked to build a strong arts, athletic and academic programs, which he believes is important to building a well-rounded educational organization and to developing students who are fully equipped to be successful members of society.

Kim Holland is no stranger to Ardmore. You may recall that Mr. Holland served as principal at Ardmore High School from July 2011 to his resignation of May of 2014. During his time in Ardmore, he was very active with student activities, but also in the community and with parents. Ardmore quickly became home to Mr. Holland and his wife Susan. When the opportunity came up to return to Ardmore and to lead the district into their next chapter, he was eager for the challenge.
