Dear Will Rogers Parents and Students,
Here we are at the start of another school year. I hope that each of you had a rewarding, exciting, and restful summer. This year we will be making some changes to some aspects of school life and adjusting our curriculum to regain our model school status from Great Expectations. This will be an exciting time at Will Rogers.
Security is always foremost in our minds at Will Rogers. The safety of students and staff is being enhanced by installing a second set of doors in the foyer and changing the drop-off and pick-up procedures. I hope that you, as parents, can see that the changes are necessary and, as always, are made with the best interests of your child in mind.
We are going to be attending several activities and field trips this year. In the fall, we attend the Pumpkin Patch or Hay Maze, as well as some classes attend the Carter County Free Fair. All of these activities have a monetary cost, so I hope that you will be able to help with fundraisers, admission prices, or volunteering to chaperone at an event.
Finally, studies have shown that those students whose parents read and do educational activities at home are more likely to be successful at school. So, please, spend 45 minutes to an hour reading a book or discussing the activities of the day with your student. You will definitely see the difference in the way your child reacts to attending school.
I am excited about being your principal again this year. I love to see all of the smiling faces as they enter our school.
Have a great year,
Johncy Martin, Principal, Will Rogers Elementary
