Role of the School Nurse

The school nurse serves in a pivotal role to provide expertise and oversight for the provision of school health services and promotion of health education. Using clinical knowledge and judgment, the school nurse provides health care to students and staff performs health screenings and coordinates referrals to the medical home or private healthcare provider. The school nurse serves as a liaison between school personnel, family, community and healthcare providers to advocate for health and a healthy school environment (American Nurses Association & National Association of School Nurses[ANA & AASN, 2011]

The Ardmore City School nurses role is a multi health care approach to health services. We work directly with students to help identify, advocate, screen and provide the best nursing health care for all our students and staff. Our roles include but are not limited to auditing immunization record, scoliosis screenings, liaison between school, home and the health community, students vision and hearing screenings, we support the students health needs and provide health education for students and staff, while helping support the education community by helping provide a school environment that is supportive and conducive to learning. We also provide emergency care for all students and staff, perform specialized health care procedures, implement and plan school health management while maintaining confidential health records and assessing and implementing individual health care plans.
